Musicology double major
The Double-Major Study Program in Musicology is a parallel program combining Musicology with a selected study program from either the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. The program provides students with both foundational and advanced knowledge in historical musicology, systematic musicology, and ethnomusicology, while simultaneously deepening and strengthening their skills and understanding of music theory subjects. By combining two academic programs from different University units, students are allowed to acquire and further develop specific knowledge that can contribute to an interdisciplinary approach and/or lead to more focused specialization within particular areas of music scholarship.
The elective courses offered to students in both the single-major and double-major programs include subjects that deepen and/or broaden their existing knowledge, as well as courses that introduce entirely new content. The elective module in music pedagogy provides students with fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge in the field, while the cultural management module offers insights into that respective area. In addition to electives offered at the Academy of Music, students also have the opportunity to choose courses from other faculties within the University, allowing them to partially tailor their studies according to their interests.
Both the single-major and double-major study programs are completed upon successful completion of all required courses and the public defense of an independently written master’s thesis before an academic committee.
Acquired competencies
Upon completion of the Integrated Double-Major Study Program , graduates with a Master’s degree in Musicology are qualified to work in public media (both print and electronic), music publishing, libraries and archives, and secondary education. They are well prepared for production and organizational roles in the cultural sector, as well as for work in research institutes and academic centers engaged in musicological, ethnomusicological, and related fields of study.
